The Power Inside

“Hollywood is dead… you can find it in yourself.” – Michael Buble

I find a lot of inspiration in the lyrics of songs.  The one referenced above is from Buble’s song, “Hollywood.”  It’s a fun tune that can give you a little jump when it comes on in the middle of a long day.  From the first time I heard it, that line “Hollywood is dead, you can find it in yourself” has stuck in my head.  Every time I listen to that particular lyric, it hammers home this thought:

The power to control your destiny is inside you. And only you!

You may have the title of PR manager or marketing assistant, but it’s a title.  An important one, for sure, but are you letting that title say who you REALLY are? What I’m not saying here is to have a revolt and march to your boss’ office and demand freedom. Too often, we get in a position where we let a label define us instead of the other way around.

Say you work in an office. Do you see just the four walls, or do you see endless possibilities? That’s the key to grasping the power inside you.  Don’t see limitations!

There are some of us who question where we are exactly. Maybe your work doesn’t mean what it used to. So why are you sticking with something that frustrates you? Look at your accomplishments. YOU are the one who did it! No one else.

Remember that it’s NEVER too late to have a life and it’s never too late to change one.

What have you found inside yourself? Let me know in the comments.

About JasMollica

"It's never too late to have a life and it's never too late to change one." That's something I tell students, friends, and family all the time. After living and working in New York City, I took my own advice in 2004, switched my career from the television/radio industry and got into public relations. Now, I spend my days as a PR/social media marketing consultant and get inspired daily. It's been a good ride, so far. But the car has plenty of gas left. I hope you'll join along in this guy's journey!

  1. The idea of having so much opportunity to go ahead and do something different with my life is what I found inside, no matter how cheesy that sounds. Knowing that I’m not stuck in one position and having mobility is a huge motivating factor for a college student who often feels like she is pigeonholed into one career choice based on her major. With so many choices, it’s really hard to pick just one, which is why I always suggest trying everything to someone who doesn’t know what he or she wants. I’m a huge fan of internships because of the fact that they’re a temporary way to try something out.

I say own every decision you make, take responsibility for yourself and love who you are. And I agree, never let your title determine your self-worth. Great post.

    • Sara,

Thanks so much for your response and reading the blog. I don’t think what you said sounds cheesy at all. You said it best, “own every decision you make.” Perfectly put!
