PC or Mac?

Quick hit post today on the blog and I need your help. What do you prefer to use and why: a PC or a Mac? Apple

I use a PC at home, but my firm uses Mac. I’ve seen advantages to both, but wondering if you were starting your own business (PR, marketing, etc.), which computer would work better.

Also, is one better to use with your social media and web efforts than the other? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section.

After living and working in New York City, I took my own advice in 2004, switched my career from the television/radio industry and got into public relations. Now, I spend my days as a PR/social media marketing consultant and get inspired daily. It's been a good ride, so far. But the car has plenty of gas left. I hope you'll join along in this guy's journey!

  1. Mac. I used PC for years at home and still have one, but use Mac for work and won’t go back. Pricey up front, but for me the easy and simplicity to do most tasks works for me.

  2. Hey Jason –

I love the concept of the Mac Design, the ‘touch me, please’ look to it, etc. etc.

But specs per dollar you can’t beat a PC, which may seem like a 1-time expense but imagine the situation where you need to replace a machine due to your own fault (no insurance, dropping it in a pool, etc.) and insurance won’t cover it. Now imagine that happening while traveling. If you use a cloud storage system or can get to your backups you can get a replacement machine for under $400 at any bestbuy, etc.

For what we primarily do (text writing, PPTs, excel, the occasional photoshopping) PCs can’t be beat.

Also toss in that you can get service at a much cheaper rate and more available and it’s really the winner in this matchup.

    • That’s what I’m looking for… I’m thinking of editing movies, etc. and I like what the Mac offers.
I own a Dell and the editing software isn’t great. Thanks for your insight, pal.

I have a Mac at home and use PC at work. If it were up to me, I’d just be an Apple shop. While the replacement/upgrade costs tend to be cheaper for PC-related gear, I’ve had better luck with Mac reliability and using programs in both formats.

  4. Hi Jason. I’d suggest a Mac. While they are more expensive upfront, they tend to be more reliable and have better software options. For instance, I had my first Macbook Pro for 5 years. My old PC desktop lasted 2.
Also if you do any video or photo editing, Macs tend to be much better for this. If this is the case, you really can’t beat Final Cut Express for $199. Best, cheap video editing software by a landslide. Not to mention, if you want to use any Adobe Suite products, they tend to work much better on Macs. Hope this was helpful.

  5. Mac. Once I want Mac, I never went back.
